Well... something happened.
Last night after dinner we treated the boys to some icecream and to my shock and suprise it started to drip out of Skeeter's nose as he ate it. He was oblivious to the fact that strawberry icecream was coming out of him. A few phone calls later I had ANOTHER Doctor appointment to go to this week (that makes 4 this week for Skeeter and K-girl). Apparently at some time the hole in the roof of his mouth broke open and he now has a direct opening to his nasal cavity. yipee!
Here are the options: (keep in mind that chemo makes it harder to heal and in exactly 7 weeks he starts the most intensive part of the program)
1) Cut another whole in his mouth (down to bone) and put the flap of skin over the dead bone and leave the healthy bone hole open to heal. Has to be done very very very soon due to healing time before the intense chemo starts.
2) knock out the diseased bone, install a retainer in his mouth (to stop the flow of materials between his mouth and his nose), and wait for him to be on long term maintainace and then due to above procedure.
Yuck. The doctors seem just too confused to me but then again this is non-typical leukemia mouth stuff. I just wish it wasn't us
